The Geo-Institute Board of Governors has nominated Georgette Hlepas, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE, to join the G-I Board for a term beginning in October 2026.
Dr. Hlepas leads the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Geotechnical, Geology, and Materials Community of Practice and is the proponent for USACE Instrumentation and Performance Monitoring. She has 17 years of experience working as a geotechnical engineer on a variety of large projects, including dams, levees, and confined disposal facilities. Dr. Hlepas has focused much of her career on advancing the instrumentation and performance monitoring state of practice, including updating engineering guidance, performing reviews of Instrumentation and Monitoring Programs, and leading the effort to implement an enterprise-level instrumentation data management system. She has developed and taught multiple instrumentation and performance monitoring courses and workshops and has authored numerous papers on both geotechnical investigations and instrumentation topics.
Dr. Hlepas was the chairperson of the US Society of Dams (USSD) Monitoring of Dams and Their Foundations Committee for several years and is a member of multiple professional organizations. She has a master’s degree in civil engineering from Columbia University in New York, a doctoral degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
Petition Candidacy for the Board of Governors
At this time, any G-I member wishing to serve or nominate another member has 45 days to declare a petition candidate.
To add candidates to the ballot via petition, signatures expressing support for a candidate must be obtained from a minimum of 150 G-I members in good standing with the following distribution requirements:
At least fifteen signatures shall be obtained from each of at least five different ASCE Geographic Regions for a total of 75 signatures from five of the ten ASCE Geographic Regions (i.e., 15 signatures/region x 5 regions = 75 signatures).
The balance of the remaining signatures necessary to reach the minimum requirement of 150 may be obtained without consideration of ASCE Geographic Region distribution. The Geo-Institute Member Identification number shall be provided for each signee. G-I staff shall check the validity of all petitions. Once verified, the candidate(s) shall be added to the ballot. No petitions will be accepted after the specified deadline has passed.
