(1983)</em></p><p><strong>Method Summary</strong></p><p>The use of acoustic emission detection during the grouting process gives information on the response of the soil to grouting pressures. If hydraulic fracturing occurs it is detected and process control can be adjusted if needed. However, hydraulic fracturing may not always be detrimental to the grouting process.</p><p><strong>Accuracy and Precision</strong></p><p>Accuracy and precision of these measurements is hard to quantify. Noise from surrounding activities can result in false readings.</p><p><strong>Adequacy of Coverage</strong></p><p>Monitoring is real time, although exact location of fractures is not known.</p><p><strong>Implementation Requirements</strong></p><p>Requires experienced personnel.</p><p><strong>General Comments</strong></p><p>This is primarily a QC method and can be used for both structural and water control grouting.</p></p>
