Preferred Design Procedure

Preferred Design Procedure
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has design guidance documents for this technology. The documents are summarized below.

Publication Title

Publication

The FHWA geosynthetic design manual provides clear design guidance and allows the use of two alternate methods. These methods are the Empirical Design Method and the Mechanistic-Empirical Design Method. These methods are adequate for non-pavement applications such as haul roads, storage yards, and embankment support. However, improvement is needed for pavement design and existing design/analysis procedure needs to be transitioned into a mechanistic-empirical design format.
